Notice of Public Hearing

The Village of Afton will hold a public hearing on July 13th, 2026, at 7:00 PM at the Afton Community Center located at 105 Main Street, Afton NY 13730 for the purpose of hearing public comments on the Village of Afton community development needs, and to discuss the possible submission of one or more Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) applications for the 2026 program year. The NYS CDBG program is administered by the New York State Office of Community Renewal (OCR), and will make available to eligible local governments approximately $45 million for the 2026 program year for housing, economic development, public facilities, public infrastructure, and planning activities, with the principal purpose of benefiting low/moderate income persons.
The hearing will provide CDBG program information and accept public input on the proposed grant applications and alternative project ideas.
The Village is considering applications for the following projects:
1. CDBG Grant funds up to $2 million through the public infrastructure program for upgrades to the Village Water system supply and transmission mains.
2. CDBG Grant funds up to $1 million through the public facilities program for improvements to the Halos Community Center.

The Afton Community Center is accessible to persons with disabilities. If special accommodations are needed for persons with disabilities, those with hearing impairments, or those in need of translation from English, those individuals should contact Ann Palmatier, Village Clerk at the Village Hall at 607-639-1022, at least one week in advance of the hearing date to allow for necessary arrangements. Written comments may also be submitted to the Village Clerk until July 16, 12:00 PM.


Budget Adoption Notice

The Village of Afton Board of Trustees has adopted the budgets for the new fiscal year beginning, June 1, 2026 – May 31, 2027. The new tax rate will be 13.26142 per thousand, an increase of 0.13352 per thousand of assessed value. A copy of the adopted budgets are available for inspection at the Village Clerks Office, 105 Main Street, during regular business hours.
The salaries for the Village Board of Trustees will be $1,225.00 annually per Trustee.
The salary for the Mayor will be $4,000.00 annually.

Organizational Meeting

The Village of Afton Board of Trustees will be holding an Organizational Meeting on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 7:05 pm, during their regular scheduled Board Meeting held at The Jack D. Bolster Community Center 105 Main Street, Afton NY.

A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES FOR THE VILLAGE OF AFTON, NY. AUTHORIZING THE ADOPTION OF THE 2021 CHENANGO COUNTY, NY HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN UPDATE (see PDF)


PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that pursuant to Section 1428 of the Real Property Tax Law, the Warrant and Tax Roll for the collection of Village Taxes for the Village of Afton, NY has been, filed with the Village Clerk Treasurer for the fiscal year June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2027.
Taxes will be, received at the Village Clerk’s Officer, 105 Main Street, Afton, NY, from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm from Monday thru Thursday from June 1, 2026 through July 30, 2026, without penalty.
Beginning on July 31, 2026 a 5% penalty will be, applied; an additional 1% penalty will be, added for each month thereafter until paid. Collection of taxes will continue until the November 5, 2026, at that time all unpaid taxes will sent back to the County to be re-levied.
